CLUB HISTORY
UCLU Fencing Club has a long and distinguished history. Founded in 1925, it was originally called the University College and Hospital Fencing Club (UCHFC) and saw the addition of a Women's Fencing Club soon after in 1926.
The Club went from strength to strength and began hosting the prestigious London International Universities Fencing Championships (LIUF) in 1997, a tradition which is being brought back after the COVID-19 pandemic. A fun and friendly student competition open to all levels of fencers, LIUF is one of Europe's largest student fencing competitions. It combines a high level of fencing with a welcoming student atmosphere
and has seen fencers of all abilities over the past decade, from Olympic medalists to beginners in their first competition - all representing universities from several continents.
The most illustrious of all awards in club history is being named Club of the Year (2019/20) amongst over 70 sports Clubs at UCL. Other Club Achievements within UCL include holding the title of the Most Diverse Club two years running (2017-19) and members such as GB fencer Caiti Maxwell being awarded Sportswoman of the Year 2018/19 and Louis Guennou receiving the same award in 2021/2022.
